Small Steps, Big Changes.
臺北馬拉松活動網站:http://www.taipeicitymarathon.com/http://www.taipeicitymarathon.com/ 臺北馬拉松Facebook粉絲專頁:https://www.facebook.com/TaipeicityMarathon/https://www.facebook.com/TaipeicityMarathon/ The 2026 Taipei Marathon will officially begin at 6:30 a.m. on December 20 in front of Taipei City Hall. At a launch press conference held today (July 3), the Taipei City Government announced that registration for the Marathon Division lottery opens at 4:00 p.m. today, while registration for the Half Marathon Division will begin at 4:00 p.m. on July 27. Continuing to uphold the standards of a World Athletics Gold Label Road Race, this year's event embraces the theme "Small Steps, Big Changes." The theme reflects the belief that every step forward has the power to transform individuals while bringing the community together, further cultivating a marathon culture that belongs to everyone. The theme embodies the idea that every stride contributes to personal growth and achievement—whether runners are pursuing a new personal best, completing their first marathon, or simply sharing the experience with family and friends. This year's visual identity is inspired by the concept of "continuous motion," transforming a single running movement into a flowing timeline that captures the accumulation of endurance, determination, and memory throughout a marathon. The city's streets are reimagined as a runner's course map, where landmarks, symbols, and rhythm intertwine to create a visual language that celebrates both movement and Taipei itself. Beyond race day, the popular Christmas Breakfast Run returns on December 19, featuring both 3K and 9K events. For the first time, the finish area will host a Breakfast Market, bringing together renowned breakfast brands, healthy food vendors, and food trucks to create Taiwan's largest outdoor breakfast festival. Combining festive holiday celebrations, recreational running, and a lively marketplace, the event invites residents and visitors alike to kick off Taipei Marathon Week in a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. The Taipei Marathon will also debut the Taipei Marathon Mini Camp this summer. Designed for elementary school students from communities along the marathon route and local running clubs, the program will offer aid station experiences, cheering activities, and fun runs, allowing children to experience a major international sporting event from different perspectives while fostering an early appreciation for marathon culture. Taipei Deputy Mayor Lin Yi-hua said the City hopes to encourage broader public participation by creating diverse ways for people to engage with the Taipei Marathon, regardless of whether they are competitive runners. "We want the entire city to become a stage for cheering on runners and celebrating together, building a marathon culture that belongs to everyone." she said. To further elevate the event's competitive standard, the Taipei Marathon has upgraded its “Gold Label Elite Top 100” rewards this year, introducing exclusive race bibs to recognize elite participants and strengthen their sense of achievement and identity. Since earning World Athletics Gold Label status, the race has recorded more than 400 runners completing the marathon in under three hours (SUB 3) for two consecutive years. This year, organizers will introduce a new Gold Label SUB 3 Honor Badge and expand the SUB 3 pace team to help even more runners achieve the coveted three-hour milestone and new personal bests. To encourage more women to pursue SUB 3 performances, renowned Taiwanese distance runner and Taipei Marathon official pacing coach Cheng Tzu-chien will once again lead the adidas SUB 3 Team, providing dedicated pacing support for female runners. Cheng noted that breaking three hours requires maintaining an average pace of 4 minutes and 15 seconds per kilometer over the entire marathon distance—a challenge that demands exceptional endurance, discipline, and determination, and one that marks a runner's entry into the ranks of elite marathoners. Women's Top 100 runner Chen Mei-tung, who achieved her first SUB 3 performance at the 2024 Taipei Marathon with a time of 2:58:20, lowered her personal best once again earlier this year at the Osaka Marathon. Reflecting on the mindset that helped her break the three-hour barrier, Chen said the journey began with setting a clear goal, maintaining confidence and a positive attitude, and following a structured training plan with disciplined pacing. "Improving your fitness step by step is the foundation," she said. Chen stressed that race-day execution is just as important as training. Runners need to understand their target marathon pace and heart rate, start conservatively, refuel consistently, and adjust according to their body's response throughout the race. A firm believer in scientific training, she emphasized the importance of building a solid marathon training base, listening to one's body, avoiding overtraining, and prioritizing recovery. Above all, she encouraged runners to trust themselves. "No matter the outcome, every training session and every race helps you become a better runner." At age 42, Thi Khanh Duong, Taiwan's youngest female runner to complete the World Marathon Majors, holds a personal best of 3:01:02, set at the 2022 Taipei Marathon. Duong said breaking the three-hour barrier has always been one of her greatest goals. "For several years I raced frequently and trained at high intensity, coming close to SUB 3 but never quite getting there," she said. "Now I've decided to slow down, rebuild from the basics, and focus on accumulating mileage. Just as importantly, you need a fast course—and my personal best was set at the Taipei Marathon. I'm hoping this will finally be the year I achieve SUB 3." Chen Wei-lin, once known as Taiwan's "strongest office worker runner" and now serving at the Ministry of Sports, said she came remarkably close to breaking three hours before injuries shifted her focus toward shorter distances, including the 10K and half marathon. As she prepares to return to the marathon, Chen said her priorities have changed. "In the past, I cared mostly about finishing times. Now, my biggest goal is to stay healthy, handle my training consistently, and make it to the start line in good condition." She added that as long as she can remain healthy and train steadily, SUB 3 is still within reach. "I know it won't be easy—but that's exactly what makes the challenge so rewarding." Sustainability remains a core pillar of the Taipei Marathon. Since 2021, Premier Sponsor Fubon Financial Holdings has partnered with Taiwan's four major marathons and other designated races to promote its Run For Green® initiative. Under the program, one tree is planted for every runner who accumulates 40 kilometers of qualifying race distance. To date, the initiative has attracted more than 406,000 participants, who have collectively logged over 11.24 million kilometers and claimed more than 128,000 trees. To further encourage elite performances, Fubon will also award a NT$330,000 bonus to the fastest Taiwanese male and female athletes who set new national marathon records. Meanwhile, Premier Sponsor adidas will continue its highly regarded training program by launching a 12-week Half Marathon Training, with registration opening on August 21. Led by a team of professional coaches, the program combines weekday track sessions focused on speed and running form with weekend long-distance runs along Taipei's riverside routes. Through a comprehensive and systematic training curriculum, the camp is designed to enhance runners' fitness, endurance, and pacing ability while helping them achieve new personal bests. The Taipei City Government emphasized that the Taipei Marathon is more than an internationally recognized road race—it is also a platform that showcases the city's vitality, inclusiveness, and community spirit. The City extends its sincere appreciation to its long-standing sponsors and partners, including Fubon Financial Holdings, adidas, Herbalife, CITIZEN, PaMi Zeng Noodles, Porsche Centre Taipei (PGUM), Marathon Expo, SHOKZ, Synmosa Group, EVA Air, Allsports Community, Betery, IMOTEK, Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical, Bravelog Sport Technology, Wu Pao Chun Bakery, Dawushan Egg Farm, Vitalon (Supau), Hermes, Red Bull, K.K. Orchard, XinGanJue, ReiSui Fresh Milk Toast, TRIKO FOODS CO., LTD., GIGIJING, and Sports Training Rehab Platform, as well as the generous support of Songshan Ciyou Temple. Together with runners and partners from all sectors, Taipei will continue to elevate the event, inspire positive change one step at a time, and further establish itself as a world-class sports city.
